The XXVI Congress of the Latin American Psychiatric Association (APAL) took place in
Puerto Vallarta,
Mexico, from October 29 to November 2. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO-WHO) was represented by Jorge Rodríguez, Principal Advisor on Mental Health, who made a presentation at the opening session of the event and later participated in the panel “The challenges of Latin American psychiatry and the heterogeneity of the political systems in the Region: Partnerships and Convergence”.
The opening session was chaired by José A. Córdoba, Secretary of Health of Mexico; Enrique Belfort, outgoing President of APAL; and Enrique Camarena, APAL’s President-elect. Also present were other Mexican national authorities and from the State of
Jalisco.
