 Belmopan City, 5 May 2010 – The Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Belize, along with educational health entities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), participated in a Health and Wellness Fair organized by the University of Belize. Hundreds of university students, lecturers, staff, and parents gathered at the university campus, Belmopan City, to learn about their health status and ways of preventing and controlling diseases.

Belmopan. September 25, 2009. Belize is now in the second wave of the Influenza A H1N1 virus. To date, Belize has 36 laboratory confirmed cases of H1N1.
There has been an increase of patients going to outpatient clinics with influenza-like illnesses, above the number expected for this time of year. Monitoring of patients accessing outpatient and emergency services continues. The virus that is in circulation in country is compatible with the Influenza A H1N1 with a high level of susceptibility to Tamiflu, the anti-viral drug used to treat the virus. |

Belmopan - 09 September, 2009 Belize will be joining other CARICOM countries in observing Caribbean Wellness Day on Saturday September 12, 2009. Local organizations and institutions will launch campaigns of regular physical activities for public participation to promote healthy living for prevention and control of non communicable diseases on Friday, September 11, 2009 in commemoration of the day. |

Belmopan, September 17, 2009. The Ministry of Health has detected a major outbreak of a flu-like illness in Caye Caulker. The public is hereby reminded that in order to prevent the spread of influenza including the H1N1, people suffering with flu like symptoms should remain at home for the duration of their illness. If you present with symptoms you are advised to visit your nearest health care provider. Please wash hands frequently and cover mouth when coughing and sneezing. The most common symptoms include: fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose.

16 July 2009: Country Office Update on the Influenza A (H1N1) situation. - The Ministry of Health confirmed 7 new cases of influenza A (H1N1). The total confirmed cases to date are 22.
- Four (4) cases are from the Corozal District; 2 cases in Belmopan City; 1 case in Belize City.
- So far indications are that the 3 cases not from the Corozal District are unrelated to the first cluster in the Corozal border area.
The Ministry Response Team (MRT) is providing technical support to the health regions and is satisfied with the response up to date. The PAHO Country Office is working closely with the MRT and is being kept abreast of all developments. |
