11 June 2009—On the basis of available evidence and expert assessments of the evidence, the scientific criteria for an influenza pandemic have been met. The Director-General of WHO has therefore decided to raise the level of influenza pandemic alert from phase 5 to phase 6. Panama City, May 15, 2009 – Stigma, discrimination and violence against homosexuals and other people who have same-sex relations, also known as homophobia, and against transgender, transvestite or transexual people, also known as transphobia, are hindering the efforts to curb the HIV epidemic in Latin America and the Caribbean, a group of United Nations (UN) agencies said today, in anticipation of the observation of the World Day against Homophobia (May 17).

Activities
- The Corozal Freezone will be re-opened as of May 6, 2009 from 7am - 6pm with heightened surveillance.
- Casinos in the Corozal Freezone will remain closed until May 11, 2009. Bars and discothèques within the Casinos will be closed until May 11, 2009.
- Mass gatherings are being discouraged countrywide.

Belize City, 13 May 2009 – The Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Belize, along with educational entities and NGOs, participated in an Educational Expo organized by the Ministry of Education. Hundreds of primary school and high school students, teachers, and parents gathered at the Memorial Park, Belize City, to learn about the different areas of education system in Belize.

Ministry of Health Press Release
Belmopan, May 3, 2009. To date there are no cases of Influenza A H1N1 in Belize. The numbers of cases continue to rise internationally, with more countries being affected. The world remains on Stage 5 Alert.
Belize maintains its current level of heightened surveillance, health education, and public awareness. Three suspected cases identified on May 2, 2009 are currently being investigated.
