18 February 2011, Belize City – As part of the technical cooperation and knowledge sharing, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Belize conducted a one day administrative training workshop to personnel from the University of Belize (UB). The training workshop was held at the PAHO/WHO Conference Room, Belize City.
The objective of the training session was to sensitize administrative staff from UB on technical cooperation procedures for projects carried out by both entities collaboratively. As an effective collaboration-based organization, PAHO/WHO promotes partnerships and network-building with national counterparts. |

Belize City, 10 November 2010 - The Belize Country Office (CO) of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) conducted a rapid, qualitative mid‐term review (MTR) of the Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) 2008‐2011 during September, 2010. This review aimed to facilitate the development of the Biennial Work Plan (BWP) 2012‐2013 and contribute to the formulation of the Organization’s Program and Budget for 2012‐13.
The objectives of the review were to:
1. Determine the degree to which the CCS 2008‐2011 has been implemented, and PAHO/WHO’s contribution to the implementation of the National Health Agenda/Ministry of Health (MOH) Strategic Plan. 2. Provide updates to the situation analysis and the strategic agenda, make recommendations for revisions, and identify implications for the strategic agenda. Strengthening Aid Effectiveness in Belize, using Health as a Tracer Sector At the initiative of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Belize, the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in that country convened a seminar on “Strengthening Aid Effectiveness in Belize, using Health as a Tracer Sector”, on 17 May 2010. The seminar aimed to facilitate the strengthening of national aid coordination mechanisms, with the goal of improving the impact of development aid in Belize. In line with international proposals, and given the multiple sources of aid to the health sector, it was suggested that Health be used as a Tracer Sector for this effort, based on the principles and tools developed through the International Health Partnership.

PAHO/WHO Belize supports national response to Hurricane Richard which crossed central Belize Belize City, 26 October, 2010 – The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Belize is working very closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in response to Hurricane Richard which made landfall approximately 20 miles south southwest of Belize City on 24 October 2010.

4 December 2009, Radisson Fort George Hotel, Belize City - The Belize Country Office (CO) of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) held a meeting to review the achievements of its Biennial Workplan (BWP) 2008-09 and present the planned BWP 2010-11 on 4 December 2009. Approximately 50 persons participated in the meeting, including regional and technical program managers in the Ministry of Health; representatives from the Ministry of Education, the University of Belize, the Kolbe Foundation, which manages the prison system, Non-Governmental Organizations working in health, other UN agencies, the media, and the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital; and personnel from the PAHO/WHO CO itself. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Sandra Jones, HIV/Gender Advisor in the CO.
