|National Drug Policy Workshop identifies critical and priority areas for action|
Belize City, 20 October 2011 - The first National Pharmaceutical Policy workshop was held in Belize City to review the Belize Pharmaceutical Profile and also to identify critical areas and priorities of the Drug Policy. The meeting was organized by Ministry of Health with support from the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Belize.
Chaired by Dr. Gerardo de Cosio, PAHO/WHO Belize Representative, and facilitated by Dr. Gustavo Vargas, Health Systems and Services Advisor, PAHO/WHO Belize, the workshop had over 20 participants who were engaged in meeting its objectives. Consequently, the Belize National Country Profile was endorsed by the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Adriana Ivama, PAHO/WHO Sub-Regional Advisor on Medicines and Health Technologies, presented and provided guidance on the WHO recommendation for the development of a national pharmaceutical policy.
The Pan American Health Organization, which is the Regional Office in the Americas of the World Health Organization, was founded in 1902, and works with all countries of the Americas to improve the health and quality of life of their peoples. The PAHO/WHO Country Office in Belize was established in the 1950s.
