PAHO Director to Visit Spain to Participate in International Meetings and Meet with Health Authorities

During a meeting with Spain’s Director of Public Health and International Health, Dr. Carmen Amela, PAHO Director Mirta Roses defined the agenda for her visit to Barcelona and Madrid, where she will participate in several events between October 13 and 21.

The agenda includes the meeting of PAHOs Advisory Committee on Health Research, the XIX Cochrane Colloquium, the 6th International Conference on Patient Safety, and the meeting of the Spanish Fund Steering Committee. The Director of PAHO also will meet with national, regional, and municipal health authorities, and will inaugurate two art exhibits on the topic of health research.

Spain has a long trajectory of collaboration with PAHO, that began when the country entered the Organization in its capacity as Observer State in September 1980. The first Framework Agreement of Cooperation was established in 1986, and in 2007 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for the creation of the Spanish Fund for financing projects and activities in PAHO. The Spanish signatories of the Memorandum are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation, the Ministry of Health, Social Affairs and Equality, and the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.
