Dr. Roses explains main issues that will be addressed by the Directing Council this week

Dr. Roses, Director of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) explained that the Directing Council will address topics such as the Action Plan to Accelerate Reduction of Maternal Mortality and Morbidity, including a Panel on Safe Motherhood and Universal Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health, with the presence of the former president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, HRH The Infanta Doña Cristina, and Dr. Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization, among other figures.

The Director of PAHO/WHO also stressed that the Directing Council will address the challenges in achieving the goals of the Millennium Development Goals and its future beyond 2015, as well as commitments on non-communicable diseases in line with the outcome of the UN High Level Meeting, and whatever is resolved in Rio at the Conference on Social Determinants of Health in October.

In addition, the Directing Council discussed the Strategy and Action Plan on Urban Health.
