Prime Minister Denzil Douglas, CARICOM Lead Head of Government for Human Resources, Health, HIV and AIDS opened the inaugural meeting of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) Executive Board today Friday 23rd September 2011 at PAHO Headquarters, Washington D.C.
This event signals strong collaborative action for public health in the Caribbean, of which the response to Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs), is among the major priorities. The CARPHA Executive Board is responsible for a number of other functions including:
• setting the strategic direction of CARPHA
• ensuring promotion of public awareness related to public health; and
• encouraging the widest participation in public health awareness, including Civil Society Organisations (e.g. Healthy Caribbean Coalition, Church Groups, Youth groups etc), other non-governmental partners, Regional partners, Countries etc
