The Director of the Board on African Science Academy Development of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, Patrick Kelley, addressed the health authorities of the Americas gathered at PAHO's 51st Directing Council PAHO, urging them to prevent antimicrobial resistance to "preserve the miracle of antibiotics, the basis of global health during the last 50 years."
