Dr. Jose Luis Di Fabio, manager of PAHO’s Health Systems based on Primary Health Care Area, presented the technical paper the Member States.
Representatives of the delegations from the countries welcomed addressing the topic during the Directing Council.
“Strong regulatory authorities are necessary to ensure product quality;” “strengthening is crucial to prevent counterfeit products;” “it will help protect health, and ensure the safety and effectiveness of the quality” of drugs and biological products in the countries, said some of the participants.
“We will have an inventory of relevant regulatory authorities in the region, therefore registered products in those countries will carry a guarantee of good quality,” said Di Fabio.
PAHO’s Assistant Director, Dr. Socorro Gross, said that “cooperation between countries will be used to strengthen those that need it. This region is in that stage where its capacity for production and innovation is accelerating, so the strengthening of regulatory authorities is a necessity,” she noted. She also thanked the United States and Mexico for their support in this field.
